Ottofest Sparks Otto Porter To Career High

On Saturday night, Wizards fans and Hoyas fans alike gathered just outside of the Georgetown University campus at the famous Tombs bar to celebrate an athlete who has done so much in DC over the past 5 seasons, Otto Porter. From his days as a Big East player of the year with the Hoyas to his drafting and ascension into the Wizards starting lineup, DC has watched Otto grow.

While DC fans took over the Tombs in  Georgetown to celebrate the hometown hope with Otto chants, masks and posters, Porter was in Dallas leading the Wizards to a win while achieving a career high in scoring with 28 points. As the final buzzer sounded there were smiles all around as the Wiz Happy Hour crew high-fived and saluted Otto Porter with a victory toast.

  • Friday - @ Celtics - Glory Days Reston - RECAP - PHOTOS
  • Saturday - @ Hawks - Ventnor Sports, Adams Morgan - RECAP - PHOTOS

I hope you can make it out to one of our great events this week. The Wizards need our support after 2 rough losses! See you out there & Go Wiz!!!

Wizards Win Out In Adams Morgan At Ventnor Sports

You would think that 50 turnovers and 2 losses in 2 night would bring us down, but nothing can stop the positive power of Wiz Happy Hour! An awesome group of Wizards fans met up at one of our favorite spots, Ventnor Sports Cafe in Adams Morgan, for a Wizards watch party. The night was packed with sports including a Caps game,  LSU vs Alabama, and a boatload of other college football games but Wizards fans were treated with audio throughout the bar!

A Friday Night Blowout At Glory Days In Reston

Wizards fans met up at Glory Days in North Point of Reston to check out a bad Wizards loss to the Boston Celtics. We had the volume pumped up to the max and enjoyed gi-normous beers while we watched turnover after turnover. While it was a bad loss it was all good in the end as we got to watch the game with fun Wizards fans.

Wizards Wine Wednesday & A Victory Toast

On Wednesday night the San Antonio Spurs were in town and a great group of Wizards fans met up at Flight Wine Bar on 6th street for some pregame food & drinks before an epic Bradley Beal buzzer beater. We had a great time talking basketball and experiencing one of the underrated Wizards pregame spots in the neighborhood. After the game we met up for our first real Victory Toast of the season as well. (Event Photos).

Halloween Home Opener Welcomes Home The Wizards & The First Wiz Toast!

The Wizards finally returned to Verizon Center for the home opener and Wizards fans represented at Penn Commons for a Halloween Happy Hour. We had a costume contest, gave away prizes, sipped on Wizards punch and talked about the upcoming season. Here's what you missed!

One Crazy Night In Fairfax

What looked to be a low key Wizards watch party turned into a crazy night of fun as Wiz fans took over the Greene Turtle in Old Town Fairfax. By the end of the night there was no telling how many PBRs and John Wall shots were consumed but let's just say the bar no longer has their regular weekend supply. Oh, and the Wizards won, or so we were told the next morning.

The Return Of Wiz Happy Hour & A Wizards Victory!

A loud eruption bellowed out from the crowd. A guy in a John Wall jersey was high fiving a guy in a Bradley Beal shirsey. John Wall had just hit the eventual game winning floater with 12 seconds left and Wizards fans at Mister Days in Arlington were pumped up (view all the event photos here).

After a very nerve-wracking closing seconds with some bizarre illegal touching call, fans sighed in relief and toasted to the victory while they caught their breaths. The Wizards won their first game, the first time that has happened in years, and we got to watch the whole thing with some amazing Wizards die hard fans.

So We Bought A Giant Witch and You Can Name Her

Well the above photo happened. And it now currently stands at my bedside freaking me the heck out every night when I wake up and see a 6 foot tall figure staring at me. So why did I buy a human sized witch that looks scary as hell and shrieks in terror at people?

Wizards Season Kickoff In Clarendon - Arlington - Mister Days

The first stop on our Wizards Opening Week Tour is Arlington, Virginia (Clarendon Metro). Our first real event of the 2nd season! We will be hosting a Washington Wizards vs Orlando Magic viewing party and kicking off the Wiz NBA season with a fun night of basketball talk and fun at Mister Days Sports Bar. Join us on Wednesday night, October 28th, starting at 6pm for $2 beers and Wizards basketball! Do us a favor & RSVP below so we can tell the bar.

Basketball is back baby! As usual we will have player masks, big heads (and some new ones this season), a Wizards player autographed prize and of course the Wizards game AUDIO! (probably the only place in the DMV where you will find this). Oh, did we mention the food & drink specials are amazing?

DC Sports Happy Hour 1 Year Anniversary

One year ago today, before my 7th season of Wizards season tickets, I decided to create a Meetup group for Wizards season ticket holders. The plan was to establish a network of season ticket holders who could meet up for food/drinks if we arrived early for games. I figured I'd do it for a few weeks and people wouldn't really be into it. Little did I know we'd have over 400 fans come through, we'd be featured in the printed version of the Washington Post and I'd be on the news!

Kelly Oubre Jr Loves The Uber Shirt

Last week I was bored at work and decided to come up with some random Wizards "thing". I looked at Wizards rookie Kelly Oubre Jr's name and realized that it has all the same letters of Uber. The photoshop basically designed itself. I put the Oubre Uber logo on a t-shirt and went to see Kelly at a Wizards fan event this weekend, and he loved the bit.

First Free Ticket Winner Of The Season!

Last season, we gave out dozens of free tickets to Wizards games. From the first month of the season all the way up to playoff games DC Sports fans got to enjoy the Wiz and save some of their money for the beer stands.  Our latest winner, Mark (pictured above), was able to see Otto Porter and the Wizards new offense get warmed up against the 76ers on Tuesday night courtesy of DC Sports Happy Hour!

This season the plan is to keep the good times rollling. Over the course of the season we will be giving out tickets a variety of different ways. From Twitter to Facebook to giveaways at live happy hours we are going to make sure some die hard fans get the chance to watch this team with raising ticket prices on us.

And keep in mind, when we have free tickets we don't always announce them. If we don't have a contest we may give them to people who come to the happy hour without tickets or email people who have been to previous events with a surprise. You never know where the next free tickets will appear. Just ask the 4 guys at happy hour who were shocked when I handed them 4 tickets to the playoff game for coming to hang out!

Best chance to win? Come join us for an event and get registered!

See you at Happy Hour!

Wizards Fan Giveaways Announced - Shirts, Socks, Bobbleheads, Snow Globes & More

The season is quickly approaching and the Washington Wizards have released their 2015-16 promotional schedule featuring all the free giveaways that they will be handing out this season. Last season's big giveaway was the Marcin Gortat Action Figure (which saved the universe by the way) and this year the Wizards are going a different route with a few not so "super hero-ey" items. This season's big giveaway items are...Drumroll....

Our New Favorite Washington Wizards Player: Jared Dudley

Pic via @JaredDudley619

Jared Dudley, who was traded to the Wizards in July, is quickly becoming one of our favorite Washington Wizards players. First, he tweeted some good advice to Jonathan Papelbon after the fight with Bryce Harper (see below), and then he had us reeling after a hilarious interview the next day on the radio. We're not sure how much floor time he'll get this season coming off injury but after listening to him talk to Grant and Danny on Monday, we are huge fans.

How Fans Can Get The Wizards Trending In Bars This Season

The Story Of Our Wizard Loving Lives

Raise your hand if this has happened to you. You walk into a bar 2 blocks away from Verizon Center. They have several TVs, and none of them are playing the Wizards game. There are however, playing a nationally televised NBA game, a tennis match, and CNN.  You don't get mad because this has happened to you before (at seemingly every bar in the DC Metro area that you've ever walked into). Instead you politely ask a bartender to put the Wizards game on.

"Bro we have to change the Wizards game, people want the Caps game on all 4 tvs at the bar"
         - Chantilly, VA -

After giving  you an annoyed look, and if another bar patron doesn't complain that they were watching the X-Games, they decide they will put the game on for you (typically on a 2 inch tv stashed away in a corner away from humanity). But not right away! You know why. It always happens. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT CHANNEL WIZARDS GAMES ARE ON!

DC Sports Playoff Mixer (Round 2, Game 5)

Wednesday night was one of the biggest nights in DC Sports history. Both the Capitals and the Wizards had 2nd round games, the Caps an elimination game 7 against the Rangers and the Wiz a chance to take a 3-2 lead in game 5 against the Hawks.

Typically, anywhere you go in the DC area will be all about the Caps (read my struggle to get the Wiz audio), but we threw around our Wiz Happy Hour gusto and found a place that would do something really awesome for us. On one side of the bar (Greene Turtle Arlington) there would be Caps audio, and on the other side there was Wizards audio. Here's how it turned out (Event Photos).

The Struggle Of Wizards Fans: Finding Wizards Friendly Bars

Wiz Happy Hour (Lou's City Bar) Watch Party Featured In The Washington Post Earlier This Season

We just had an amazing Wizards (and Caps) game watching event at the Greene Turtle in Arlington. It was possibly the only bar in the entire DC Metro area that was playing the Wizards game audio and we had over 20 Wizards fans show up to cheer on the Wiz.

At one point we looked at the surrounding tables and saw tons of people in groups who were ordering waters and spending no money. Meanwhile our monster quadruple table of Wizards fans was packed with food and the beers literally were flowing from 6pm-11pm.

So why did this great event for both fans and the establishment almost not even happen?
